SOLD - An American Silver and Mixed-Metals Tray in Japanese Style

Stamped with pattern number 5391, order number 867, hammering and mounting design number 435, and 'PATENT APPLIED FOR'.<br /><br />
This item is described in Tiffany & Co's pattern book as "Tray to go with 5387 Jug & Water Set 'Camando.'" The original making costs for trays of similar pattern ranged from $36 to $68. A 10 3/4 in. tray of this form, but with decoration in gold, silver and copper featuring a gourd vine and tendrils and a dragonfly, is illustrated in John Loring's "Magnificent Tiffany Silver", Harry N.Abrams Inc., NewYork, 2001, p. 42.<br /><br />
The author also mentions the fact that another version of this tray was shown by Tiffany at the Paris Exposition in 1878.<br /><br />
