A Set of Ten George I Antique English Silver Dinner Plates
Description
A fine set of ten plates. The coat-of-arms is that of Tripp of Tripham, Kent, impaling Cooke quartering Warren. The ancient Tripp family seems to have come to some prominence in the 17th century when Charles Trippe, Barrister of the Middle Temple and justice of the Peace, married Katherine Bell, the daughter of Sir Edmund Bell, The Lord Chief Baron of the Exchequer.
Four plates from this set are currently on view in the Wrightsman Galleries at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Acquisition number 2019.283.112-115, they are part of the Wrightsman Bequest.
