SOLD - A George IV Antique English 18K Gold Box of American Interest
18K gold, of rectangular form with engine-turned panels, applied floral thumbpiece, centered with an oval cartouche engraved "Hovey", the cover interior engraved "Presented by the corporation of the City of New York to Captain Henry R. Hovey of the Ship Devonshire of the same place as a testimonial of their appreciation of his heroic conduct on the occasion of his rescuing the crew & passengers of the steamer Helena Sloman, at sea, on the 28th of November, 1850".
Together with a framed engraved resolution by the City of New York, with an applied seal, giving thanks to Captain Hovey and indicating that he would receive a gold box with suitable inscription.
