Description

A molinet. This is effectively a whisk, a stirrer, but one which was used exclusively in conjunction with a chocolate pot. The removable cover of the pot was lifted off, the molinet lowered into the pot, and the pot's cover replaced with the handle of the molinet sticking out through a little hole which could be covered with a cap or a second little hinged lid. Then you could stir up your hot-chocolate before pouring, which was necessary because no one at that time had figured out how to make an emulsion of chocolate and water. Tedious to explain but we really thought you ought to know.
