SOLD - A Charles I Antique English Silver Dish
Though this is a fine example of a beautiful Charles I form, one of the loveliest things about it is the curious presence, on its foot, of a full set of marks from the James I period. While it is a well-known fact that English silversmiths re-used or refashioned, it is very rare to find a piece with old marks. The nearest thing we have experienced was a Queen Anne tankard we had about thirty years ago, the flange of which was covered with lines and patterns indicating it had been cut from a piece of Chinoiserie flat-chased silver.
